Like a lot of people, I’ve wrestled with how the Holy Trinity—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—actually works.

I’m pretty sure I’ve figured it out, but every now and then I have to process it all over again like a theological Sudoku puzzle.

Today, I had a random thought that put it in a different context. So maybe it will help you too if you’re stumped.

The Trinity as a PR Plan (just hear me out)

I’ve worked in public relations for three decades and crafted PR plans for just about every kind of company you can imagine.

And since I’m sort of doing PR for the Kingdom of Heaven, it struck me that the same formula I use for a PR campaign also helps me understand and explain the Trinity a little better.

In PR (and business in general), there are three key elements to an effective plan:

  • The Objective (your ultimate goal)

  • The Strategy (how you’ll achieve it)

  • The Tactics (what you’ll actually do to make it happen)

Now let’s apply that to the Trinity:

  • The Objective: Joining God in the Kingdom of Heaven. He is the visionary mastermind, setting the ultimate goal.

  • The Strategy: Jesus—the way we get there. The tangible messenger, God in human form, communicating the way.

  • The Tactics: The Holy Spirit—our guide and power. The internal activator that empowers us to carry out the mission to reach the objective.

Three distinct parts. One unified purpose.

Three persons, one God.

Thankfully, God doesn’t need us to understand it perfectly. He just wants us to keep showing up and trusting the process.
